THE SPECIAL GRAND FESTIVAL OF THE HIE JINJA SHRINE
THE 400TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE TRANSFER OF THE PRINCIPAL DEITY

The Hie Jinja Shrine was founded in 1141, when alord at that time built a castle and enshrined the Hie-no-Ohkami in theshrine on Sekkozan Hill as the guardian deity of the castle.
In 1586, when Kanamori Family started to govern the entire Hida area, theshrine was moved to it's present location. Since then, it has been worshippedas the guardian deity of the community.
The Hie Jinja Shrine's Grand Festival is held every20 years; however, it hasn't been held since 1958 for miscellaneous reasons.This year's grand festival is special for, it will be held to celebrateTakayama's 400th Anniversary of the transfer of the principal deity, andthe 60th Anniversary of it's incorporation as a city. That is why it iscalled the Special Grand Festival.
Due to this, there will be special events which are different from the usualones.
